You know the feeling when you get a raging zit right before a big event? When you look at yourself in the mirror and a red, swollen pimple stares back at you? And then the immediate urge to pop it, pulling the content out…

One thing is for sure – no one will ever tell you “Pop your pimples – this is how you will get rid of them!”. Uncontrolled popping/squeezing of pimples can lead to the spread of an infection or the appearance of deep scars that usually take a long time to recover. Skin picking worsens the acne breakout, making the pimples more noticeable and painful.

In addition, skin picking often becomes a bad habit that can be hardly avoided even after solving the acne problem.

But the truth is sometimes pimple popping cannot be avoided. And the least we can do is try not to spread the bacteria and eliminate the annoying pimple for good.

The most important is to determine the right moment when the pimple is ready to be extracted and the most gentle way to do it, leaving minimal damage to the skin?

The right moment

Whiteheads appear on the uppermost skin layer when dead skin cells, oil, and dirt clog the pores of the facial skin and are the only ones that can be extracted. To clean the area properly, use an antibacterial facial cleanser. Apply to the pimple without excessive rubbing; then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.

How to perform pimple extraction

Don’t touch the pimple without wearing disposable plastic gloves or at least cover the tips of your fingers with cosmetic gauze. This will make you avoid direct contact between the facial skin and your nails. It will also prevent a potential injury to the surrounding tissue.

You shouldn’t squeeze the pimple starting from the top. Instead, press the skin surrounding it.

If the pus does not come out, change the position of your fingertips and try again. If the pimple does not open after the second try, then it is not ready to be squeezed yet.

If the pus comes out, do not touch the pimple itself, but gently massage the area around it. More puss may be extracted if you squeeze again (gently). Note that there is always a chance to push the contents inside the pimple deeper into the skin, and this will increase the inflammation process,

In case there is no more pus to come out, there may be slight bleeding, which means that the sebum and pus were completely released from the follicle and it is time for you to stop pressing the area.

The next step is to disinfect with an antiseptic agent to protect the area from bacterial infection and apply a skin moisturizer on top – this will reduce the recovery time.

However, it is will be way easier for you to put your time and energy into acne prevention, good hygiene, and proper skin care instead of picking at your skin.

Do not make extracting pimples into a bad habit, do it as an exception and follow all the tips mentioned above in order to prevent the formation of new ones.

It is hard to think of a person who doesn’t have at least one scar. In general, scars are permanent “marks” on the skin resulting from an injury. They are formed over the wounded area as a result of the healing process after a skin burn, cut, inflammation, procedure, acne, trauma, etc.

Damage to the deeper layer of the skin – the dermis – is usually a prerequisite for the formation of a scar, whereas the response to the epidermis does not always result in a similar skin issue.

There are different types of scars – acne scars, contractile (affecting the movement of a joint), hypertrophic, stretch marks, and one type that inherently differs radically from the others – keloid scars.

Keloids are types of scars that never stop growing, creating firm, rubbery nodules in the area, where the skin got injured.

The expanded and damaged connective tissue is characterized by a raised edge, irregular shape and excessive collagen deposition, usually as a result of impaired skin integrity. The most visible keloids are formed after severe skin burns.

Keloids are tumor growths of connective tissue over the skin level. They are in the form of a hypertrophic rupture that extends beyond the site of the injury itself. The process of keloid scar formation slows down after a particular period of time and, unfortunately, can lead to significant cosmetic defects.

Keloids are an individual reaction to the damaged skin and may result in the appearance of multiple blood vessels. The scar tissue that doesn’t stop growing is much larger than the wound causing the scar.

Keloids look like benign tumor tissue around the site of the injury and rise over the normal skin. They are smooth to the touch and have pink or purple color.

Unlike other types of scars, keloids do not diminish over time, but may even increase in size, while their color may get darker and even more noticeable.

Although keloid scars often cause itching, they are usually not a threat to your skincare. They may cause discomfort or irritation when clothes cover them or there are other forms of contact or friction available.

Rarely, their appearance spreads over large parts of the body, and this could limit some of the body movements.

Severe burns, cuts or acne breakouts are the most common reasons leading to keloid scarring, but not every scar leads to the development of a keloid.

People with darkly pigmented skin are 15 times more likely to develop keloids, and those in the African, Latin and Asian ethnic groups are at greatest risk. This type of scarring is equally common in both men and women, rarely occurring in elderly people and children.

Keloid scars are more of a cosmetic than a health-related issue. If the keloid scar has appeared on a visible part of the body (for example, in the facial area), it may lead to lower self-esteem and pronounced psychological discomfort.

Exposure to sunlight makes the mark appear darker and more protruding than the rest of the skin surrounding it. Because of that, people who have large keloid scars are looking for efficient solutions to their removal.

There are several ways to eliminate or, at least reduce the appearance of keloid scars:

Corticosteroid injections (intralesional steroids)

They are safe but moderately painful. Intralesional injections are usually prescribed once every four to eight weeks, targeting the keloids and helping to level the convex skin with the surrounding normal skin.

Surgical Intervention

Fixing keloid scarring requires patience and persistence. For some, the optimal effect of the method chosen comes within a couple of months, for others – it may take over a year before the scar becomes flatter and the redness disappears.

I have been battling stretch marks since I was 13. They developed due to a prolonged corticosteroid infusion therapy, which made me look like a balloon and I’m not kidding – I gained about 55lb (25kg) thanks to the therapy. Enough about that, the consequences for my body were really dramatic and my skin was so stretched all the time that narrow streaks started to appear. They were not painful at all but the itching sensation was killing me, I just can’t forget how annoying that was.

Anyway, I managed to get in shape (only God knows how) but the stretch marks were still there – they weren’t itchy anymore, they were just red lines, covering my hips, belly, and buttocks. This is when my stretch marks battle started, 14 years ago.

I started applying homemade recipes (such as pork lard, vitamin E, there was this body cream recipe in a magazine: a mixture of melted cocoa butter and shea butter, and lavender oil) as well as multiple OTH products (starting from the common body oils to the luxury ‘100% effective” formulas). Well, none of these actually worked. And I decided to leave my skin as it is, I couldn’t change anything about it anyway.

Now, I’m 27. And it all started when last November, my sister decided to give me her almost unused Deux Derme Stretch Mark Cream. She told me ‘I won’t use it – if you want it, just take it or I will throw it away’. And I did, I took it because otherwise, the money spent on this cream would be thrown out of the window.

So, I continuously applied it to the striae until I finished the container (it took me about 3 months). You see, I’m talking about really old stretch mark formations: white in color, easily noticeable, raised above the skin surface. I didn’t expect to see any changes in my skin texture or anything but there were some improvements I couldn’t pretend I didn’t see.

I’m not talking about major changes – I started noticing that my stretch marks size diminished a little bit and also these raised sections kind of flattened, which I considered exciting as I never imagined something would change.

This motivated me to order another cream and by the time I finished it (at the end of May), the difference was obvious! Of course, I still have my stretch marks, they can’t magically disappear and everyone trying to convince you that this is possible without serious interventions, I personally consider a liar.

The stretch marks are still there, I know I have them but now they are barely visible and I feel way more comfortable with my body. I’m no longer ashamed to go to the beach, I decided to get over that.

The only problem I noticed is that I should probably avoid sunbathing, as while my skin becomes darker, these areas, affected by stretch marks never change their color, so this is when my marks become noticeable.

Several months after the last application of Deux Derme Cream, I am still satisfied with my results (it is the middle of October now) and I would assume the formula will be even more effective if you start applying it during the process of stretch marks formation. But I can’t say for sure, it was too late for my marks to regenerate from the excessive stretching – it had already damaged the healthy tissue in a way that the process was irreversible.

However, if you are lucky enough, you will have the opportunity to start your stretch mark treatment earlier (during the development stage) and I believe this product has the potential to reverse the previous condition of your skin.
