“I have a problem with dry cracked feet and it gets aggravated when my feet get exposed to dirt and dust. Since I live in India, we do not have the habit of keeping our floors carpeted year round. My feet often get covered with cracks and they are extremely painful. I have often used an ointment named Jatyadi Malam which cures my feet. I massage this ointment into my feet daily at night and then put on a pair of socks. Using this ointment cures my feet and the skin becomes soft and manageable. Apart from this ointment, I have also used mustard oil to massage my feet. When I run out of the ointment, I have used this oil, and it too provides relief to me. I also apply a mixture of glycerin and rose water during the daytime and wear socks to get the maximum benefit.

“Soak your feet in a dishpan with warm water, and a half cup each of Epsom salts and baking soda. Before going to bed, massage your feet with Castor Oil and put on thin cotton socks. Your feet will look and feel great in the morning.

“Using Bag Balm (now available at most chain drugstores) will restore your heels no matter how dry and how deep the cracks are.

Since this product is used on cow udders for chapping, wounds, scratches, which afflict the udders as the cows lead their lives, moving around in the fields, its efficacy is quite amazing for human feet.

Just rub it in generously and put on a pair of socks and voila, soft, healed heels. It is greasy but it’s not that bad and it washes out of the socks you wore. You will love it.”

Jayson’s odd dry cracked feet remedy

“I had cracked and dry feet for several months, not painful but very annoying. Nothing worked to get rid of it until an ingenious suggestion was given: pickle juice. Now, I hate pickles, but soccer season was in full effect, so every night after practice I would shed my socks and soak my feet. Strangely enough, after a few

Natalie’s soothing dry cracked feet recipe

“I personally love this recipe my mom showed me years ago for soothing tired and cracked feet.

Ingredients

1/4 C Honey
1/2 Oatmeal
2 T Aloe Vera
1/8 C Rock Salt
1 t Lavender Oil
Water to fill foot bath

Preparation

Mix all ingredients together in the foot bath with water as hot as you can handle. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Simple, quick and easy but very relaxing and moisturizing!”

“Yes, I said Dairy Cows. If you happen to be a dairy cow with sensitive chapped areas when it comes to “milking”, then a thoughtful farmer might apply a remedy that has been around since 1899. It comes in a green tin and is called Bag Balm. It is an alcohol-free ointment containing lanolin to moisturize and soften the exposed, tender surfaces that face daily use. Likewise, if you have rough patches of skin on elbows,

Likewise, if you have rough patches of skin on elbows, knees, and feet, you can make use of this product to soften and moisturize those hard-working areas. No, it is not advertised for general human use, but it is safe for domestic animals and we aren’t really much different, are we?

I, along with numerous friends and family, have been using Bag Balm to soothe rough skin on dry, cracked heels for more than 25 years. I can’t imagine a better product!”

Once you’ve worked on healing dry cracked feet and they look good again, make sure you maintain it, they deserve it. Treat yourself to a good foot massage or get a foot scrub.

  • Awesome article! I also do what Joy is doing to relieve dry feet, especially during winter season. It’s just that I use petroleum jelly instead of castor oil, but I love Epsom salt as well. 🙂 Such a nice read!
